Remarks on Righteousness:
NT Lessons
April 7, 2006
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it, that
He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
or any such thing: but that ti should be holy and without blemish.
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies.  He who loves his wife, loves himself
-- Ephesians 5:25-28

Do you love your wife?  Love her the same way Christ loved the church.

The problem is that we've forgotten what true love is.
We confuse love and lust, as well as like and love.
Love is a mental decision where we wish what is best for the other person
and work to provide that for them -- regardless of the convenience or inconvenience
or the pleasure or the pain it brings to us.  Love is sacrificial.
Read 1 Corinthians 13.

Jesus gave His life for us.  He endured the torture and death of the cross
because He loved us.  See John 3:14-18.

The question is: do you love your wife that much and in that way?
Are you willing to do what is best for her regardless of the cost or convenience to you?
Are you willing to give her the care and consideration you do your own body?
If you do not and have not, is it not time you did?
