| Remarks on Righteousness In the News |
| April 5, 2006 The murder of Matthew Winkler is in the national news. A minister from Tennessee is murdered by his wife: why is this national news? The old saying is "Dog bites man is not news; man bites dog is news." It needs to be unusual to be news. Like the story that appeared in the news a few years ago: COWBOY BITES RATTLESNAKE. The influence of Christianity, and the conduct of ministers and their wives is such that it is as unusual as a cowboy biting a rattlesnake for a minister to be murdered by his wife. Do wives murder husbands? Unfortunately by the hundreds every year. But, they do not make the national news, they are not that unusual. Thus, in a strange way, the fact that such a murder has made the national news is a credit and compliment to the church to which Matthew Winkler belongs. Their character and behavior is so good that it makes incidents like this so unusual as to be national news. |
