Remarks on Righteousness
Over the years, I have seen a growing tendency to forget, or to purposely leave out scripture
from teaching both in the pulpit and in writing.  It is not uncommon to fail to see scripture for
weeks from some sources, even sources aimed at converting the sinner (and sometimes
even more from them).

Have we abandoned belief in the power of the gospel?  Have we abandoned belief in the
power of the word of God?  Do we now think that the ability to convict and convince the sinner
is found in our eloquence and wisdom rather than in the inspired word of God?  Are we
commanded to preach our wisdom and our stories?  Or are we commanded to preach the
gospel of Jesus Christ and the word?

We need to again take to heart these scriptures!

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly
equipped for every good work.  I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ,
who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word!
Be ready in season and out of season.  Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and
teaching.  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to
their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.  But you be
watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.  ~ 2
Timothy 3:16-4:5

Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord
gave to each one?  I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.  So then neither he
who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. ~ 1 Corinthians 3:
5-7

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing
even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the
thoughts and intents of the heart. ~ Hebrews 4:12

Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.  But
we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the
word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’
s conscience in the sight of God  But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are
perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of
the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.  For we do
not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’
sake.  For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our
hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. ~ 2
Corinthians 4:1-6

And, now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build
you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. ~ Acts 20:32
