Proverbs 1:8,9
My son, hear the instruction of your father,
And do not forsake the law of your mother;
For they will be a graceful ornament on your head,
And chains about your neck.
One of the first lessons in life is: Pay attention to your parents.
The first commandment with promise is: Honor your father and your mother that your days may
be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you. [see Exodus 20:12].
It will do you good as a child, and will serve you well as an adult. The lessons learned at the
knees of your father and your mother will guide you all the days of your life.
Especially is that true of godly parents who teach you to read your Bible daily, to say your
prayers before meals and before you go to bed, to attend the services of the church, and to live
your life remembering God is watching every moment.
I thank God for the godly parents who raised me. The memories of my father reading his Bible,
of my mother reading Bible stories to me, of prayers being said each night, of the consistent
attendance to church services, and of the example of godly living they put before me. They
continue to serve me well, decades later.
