Pure Religion James 1:26,27

James 1:26,27
If anyone among you thinks he is religious,
and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart,
this one's religion is useless.
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this:
to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction,
and to keep one's self unspotted from the world.
Some people are proud of their religion. They wear it like a badge of honor. However,
when they open their mouth it is amazing what comes out. The words of four letter
length leave the air as with blue smoke. The hatred that spews out of their mouth
causes you to shutter. The lies that are heard cause a black cloud to hang over them.
They may think they are religious, but if they do not control their mouths, they are
deceiving themselves. Their religion is useless, it is vain.
The religion that puts you before the Father in heaven is pure and undefiled. It is
marked by what you do, not by what you proclaim.
First, it is to reach out to your fellow man. A religion which does not cause you to be
compassionate, a religion that does not cause you to care, a religion that does not
cause you to act upon that compassion and care is useless. Reach out to help those
who are in need of your help, especially the helpless.
Second, it is to stay free from the pollutions of the world. The blue smoke, the
sickening spew, the black clouds of the sins of the world should be dispersed by the
love of God and the example of Jesus Christ.
Pure and undefiled religion is both a religion that causes you to do the right things
and to refrain from the wrong things. A religion that causes you to do the right things
but does not prohibit you from doing the wrong things is a religion that does not and
can not remove you from your sins. A religion that does not cause you to do the right
things, but prohibits you from doing the wrong things leaves you hanging in limbo
with nothing to define who you are.
Christianity, the teaching of Christ, commands both to do good works and to stay
away from sin.
"And now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able
to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." [Acts
20:32]
