| The Bible: The Bible Is Eternal! |
Throughout the Bible, claims are made for the eternal character of its words. "For all the flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: but the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you." ~ 1 Peter 1:24,25; Isaiah 40:8 Man and nature come and go, but God's word, the Holy Bible, abides for ever and ever. "The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever." ~ Psalm 12:6,7 Even Jesus claimed the word of God spoken through Him would last eternally. "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." ~ Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33 Beyond the existence of our planet, atmosphere and the very universe; the word of God, the Holy Bible, shall exist. The eternal nature of the Bible is summed up by Bernard Ramm in his book, Protestant Christian Evidences: "A thousand times over, the death knell of the Bible has been sounded, the furneral procession formed, the inscription cut on the tombstone, and commital read. But somehow the corpse never stays put. "No other book has been so chopped, knifed, scrutinized and vilified. What book on philosophy or religion or psychology or belles lettres of classical or modern times has been subject to such a mass attack as the Bible? with such venom and skepticism? with such thoroughness and erudition? upon every chapter, line and tenet? "The Bible is still loved by millions, ready by millions, and studied by millions" [Chicago: Moody Press; 1957; pp. 232-3] The Bible has survived the worst attacks its opponents could make to destroy it. It like the Hydra of Greek mythology has multiplied with every death blow dealt it to a great position of authority and prestige. It is truly "the anvil which has worn many a hammer out." |
